Love songs. I don't really know about any of my friends playing them or dedicating them to their girls and to me this is one of the easiest ways to express to your girl how much you care for her or miss her. Hell, I don't hear about any acts of romance amongst my guy friends because maybe they are all too cool. In college I used to keep a list of the songs for different occasions and I'm here to share some of these songs to maybe help you rekindle your passion or get you back on track with the one you care about.
Note that playing these songs for you girl doesn't make you less of a man. It can be hard to accurately describe your feelings towards someone and having a song do it for you shows that you actually do feel that way. Now it isn't as simple as play the song and walk away, but what you do to get them to listen is up to you for now. I'm just here to show you the songs.
These songs aren't in any particular order and I don't classify them as the 10 greatest love songs or anything like that. They are just damn good songs that fit specific circumstances and if they aren't your type of thing then that is fine. Most of them are of the R&B nature because that is my style and are the type of songs that have worked for me in the past.
Mr. Big - To Be With You
I'm going to start off with one of my all-time favorites. This song is for the guy who sits on the sidelines watching the one he cares about get hurt by men he doesn't feel deserve her. I played this for a friend that I had deep feelings for and who I never seemed to get the right message across to and after hearing it she shed some tears. It's now one of her favorite songs.
What happened after? Hey this is about helping you guys out, not sharing my personal life history. Mind your own business.
112 - Cupid
Now this is a song that I do think every man should have in his repertoire because how often do we tell a woman something and they assume the other? This song is about the frustrations of letting that person know how much you care and they do nothing but turn your words into "deceptions and lies". Of course if your words really are lies then don't bother with the song.
PM Dawn - I'd Die Without You
When I play this one for people (just to play, not to drop the panties) nobody has heard of it, but it has to be one of the greats. This is a song about a man saying who will do anything for his woman except die without her. That's deep on so many levels I still can't comprehend it.
Stevie B - Because I Love You
Mike hates this song for some reason, but this is the song that expresses love in ways us men usually can't do.
Az Yet - Hard To Say I'm Sorry
If R&B isn't your thing you can do Chicago's original instead. But man if this song doesn't speak the truth. Sure just saying "I'm sorry" is easy when you don't have any feeling behind it, but when there are rought times sometimes you need that break only to come back to really mean it when you say sorry.
Shai - If I Ever Fall In Love
The epitome of love songs in my opinion.
Silk - Freak Me
Okay sometimes you just need some baby making music and I know the old-timers might not classify this as Barry White type of music, but get this song in the right setting and umm...yeah. You get the gist.
SWV - Weak
It was about time to get some female singers in here and this song is no less any great than the rest. You know some peope just have that certain effect over you and this song describes it perfectly.
Hi-5 - Kissing Game
Love is meant to be fun although many times it isn't. For those times when there is nothing but good times going on this is the song that brings out that happiness. Of all the physical acts we can do to one another, the kiss always seems to be the most powerful to me.
112 - Your Letter
Now this song probably won't help you with the ladies, but we all know love isn't always great. If there has been a time where you thought someone was into you and you put everything into them only to find out they loved someone else then this song is for you. Sometimes we just need to sit alone with our bottle of Whiskey and tune out.
Of course this list is by no means comprehensive because there are hundreds of great love songs across many different genres. I just think this list covers a lot of ground in helping men with whatever they are going through in a relationship. Here are a couple more songs that would've made the list were I able to embed their videos.
- Prince - Purple Rain
- Lyfe Jennings - Must Be Nice
- Joe - I Wanna Know
- Job B - They Don't Know
- Usher - Nice and Slow
If you have some "go to" songs then I would love for you to share them below.

A classic that will never die.

Can't go wrong with the classics, can go wrong with the outfits though. Gotta love the fact that the goofy white guy playing the accordian composed all the music. Shows you never know who has the love gene in them!

I had that PM Dawn album. Definitely an underrated song. The lyrics aren't bad, the singing is good, but the little piano flourishes really make the piece.

PM Dawn was an underrated group I think. Songs always reached out to me.

Az Yet is one of my favorites. I get lost in the acapella version. I remember it was weeks before I realized it was acapella.
I have to admit, being a sucker for music, in my past relationships that was an easy way to make a tense situation dissolve (at least on my part) immediately. I had ex's (currents at the time) email me a link, text me, IM me, or even call with the song playing in the background (for them I used different tactics). By the time the song is over it was all good - at least able to talk about the situation.
Odd, it's always older songs though. I'm currently listening to Last Kiss by Mariah Carey but I doubt it's a song I'll be ooohing and aaahing over a year from now.

Perhaps an obvious choice, but a mid-old school classic none the less...

I actually lean more toward sending songs like Dylan's "It Ain't me Babe" sung by Joan Baez of course.
But Roebrta Flack did one of the best love songs ever.

Here's another good one -- nevermind the dorky guys in their 70's outfits in the video though...
