Hamilton, Alonso or Raikkonen For F1 Title?

The Formula One season comes to a close on the 21st October at the final race in Brazil. Currently, Lewis Hamilton still leads the drivers championship on 107 points, Fernando Alonso following on 103. Kimi Raikkonen is the only other driver mathematically able to win the title, sitting on 100 points.
In order for Alonso to steal the title, he would have to win and hope Hamilton finishes no higher than third (when points are equal the number of highest positions are counted). If Alonso finishes second, Hamilton cannot finish any higher than fifth.
For Raikkonen to win, he really needs to win the race and hope Hamilton fails to get any further than 7th, and Alonso no higher than 5th. A tall order.
Realistically, it's down to either McLaren driver, especially given the circuit favours the British team.
So who do you think will take the title? Is Hamilton about to become the first rookie to win the championship, or can Alonso pull something out of the bag and make it three in a row? Or are you a die-hard Kimi fan?

I really like Alonso as a driver, and am afraid he might push to hard to beat Hamilton to the finish line, it's true Hamilton is a rookie and might not handle the pressure.
I really doubt that Kimi has a chance to win the Championship....
Think its worth betting 10 euros on kimi though.... who knows.

Yeah, if I were a betting man I'd put some change down on Raikkonen. It does look as though Lewis will win it, but I personally hope Alonso manages to clinch it. I don't actually know why I'm not rooting for Lewis (I supported Hill all those years ago), but I think Alonso just has that edge that marks him out from the others.
Not gunning for the red cars, Sebastiano, or just being realistic?

I don't like ferrari since schumacher... god I can't stand him, lol, I've always preferred the 2nd diver at Ferrari like E. Irvine & R. Barrichello
My Favorite team is Benetton and Favorite driver G.Fisichella (So you can see I hardly cheer at a GP , hehe ^-^.. )
Yep I agree Alonso should win the championship though.

Heh, I never ever liked Schumi either.
Tall order, yes, but I've always liked Kimi. Seems he never quite makes it, or has his tyres explode from underneath him in the very last bit.
I suppose it'll be Hamilton. Would be cool.

I want Kimi to win if only because I really can't stand Hamilton or Alonso. I will credit that they are both amazing drivers. Once Hamilton has a bit more experience in the wet and when things go wrong, he's going to be unstoppable. And Alonso's already world champ a gazillion times over, so he must be good. But the thought of either one winning? *shudder*
Hamilton has just been too cocky this season, Alonso has been a prima donna and a poor looser (though it's a bit understandable as the Maclaren situation is not exactly what he thought he would be getting when he moved over), and I can tell you that if both end up in the wall or stalled at the start, Jo and me are going to be cheering.
If I was a betting person though, I'd put money on Alonso. If he can manage not to run Hamilton off the road in a fit of anger.

I want Hamilton to win,....I like the ldea of a rookie winning; it has a great feel-good factor.
It makes a change for the end of season race to be so open having had years of Schumacher being entirely predictable.

I find the extent of Kimi's fanbase interesting. The guy barely speaks English, appears to have the charisma of a turkey in December and has generally raced in cars that are just about capable of winning. Yet so many people cheer him on. I guess it indicates that F1 fans aren't shallow - bravo to you all.
I think Kimi deserves the title, especially after so many years of near-misses. Part of me agrees with Cas in hoping that both McLaren's run each other off the road in a mist of red eyes, leaving Kimi to sail through. But then that would mean Ferrari president Luca De Montezemolo having his cake and eating it (he has been saying some very unsporting things about McLaren in the press recently).
A rookie winning it would be great for the sport, but I wonder if it is a good thing for Hamilton. Where do you go once you've won it at the first attempt? It is good though that this season has seen four different winners, and disqualifications aside, two teams battling for the constructors. If it wasn't for the controversies, 2007 would have been a vintage year.
I think I'm still with Alonso on this one. But only because I think it would be sweet for the guy to win the title and then take the coveted Number One to another team should he decide to leave. Much like he did last year, come to think of it.

cruel...so cruel...
Lol, it's so true, it is always fun to see a press conference with Kimi around, they ask a question to him, and it's like he has a tiny speaker in its mouth, he opens it a little, and someone else from the room aside is just talking in his place... (probably Mika Hakkinen, same as Kimi a wonder in English.)
Thats why I like Alonso, he just talks, knows how to express anger and joy.

I just adore this photograph. Post Chinese Grand Prix in 2005 - Alonso becoming the youngest ever WDC. The sheer joy expressed by him is mesmorising.

hehe, and here we can see the the joy Kimi did express after winning a race

@Sebastiano: I love the fact that two of the marshals have handlebar mustaches! That's class.
Kimi just doesn't seem quite as inspired, or passionate. For sure he is an amazing driver with an awful lot of talent. But it doesn't come across, at least to me it doesn't anyway. This is only exacerbated by the fact he is driving for one of the most charismatic and passionate teams in the entire history of motor racing - Ferrari.
Oh, and I almost forgot, I'll let you into a little secret I don't often share.

It's in the detail on the hat, but reversed. I was hoping you'd get it seeings as you hardly cheer at a Grand Prix. ;-)

There's Lewis Hamilton fever here in the UK! The media here are kind of assuming he's going to win, and I'm also hoping he does. If there aren't any technical faults, I think he will win on driving alone. However, seeing as how he crashed out at the Chinese GP, anything can happen and a crash would mean he's out of the running.
He really has an amazing story, and I think Hamilton is going to become an F1 legend. There was a TV programme here on him which showed a clip of him when he was 12, I think, from a children's show called Blue Peter. Even at that age, he was winning go-kart races from boys much older than him. I think he was signed up to McLaren even before he could get his driving licence!

I'm hoping for a Hamilton victory, I've watched him since he was nine, and more to the point I've watched the rest of them (except Massa) since their teens and I know how they compare. Raikkonen and Kubica are as good, along with a few guys who haven't had a sniff of an F1 car and never will.
And I think it's great that the only drivers Lewis will even countenance being better than him are either dead or retired - I think there's too many British sports "stars" who are ready to admit they are second best (Andy Murray I'm looking at you). If you're going to accept millions to develop your career you better believe you are the best. Otherwise there's little wonder that motor racing is the only sport we're any good at.
I used to like Alonso, I really did. Schumacher-like consistency without the random on-track arseholery. But expecting to be the number one driver without, um, getting it written into your contract is naive to say the least.

Being British I really want Hamilton to win.
Alonso has just frustrated me something rotten this season. The amount of times that he has spat his dummy out is quite simply unbelievable.
With regards Kimi I think it would be difficult for him to win it. For me it will be between Hamilton and Alonso.

And how many times has Hamilton thrown the toys out the pram? I'm not saying it is as many as Alonso, but he has shown similar traits this season. Belgium being one such example when Alonso ran him (safely) off the track in defense of his position, and Hamilton's comments following were verging on childish. I don't think Hamilton has forgiven Alonso for that yet!

Well yeah Hamilton perhaps has, but not to the extent that Alonso has. Plus Hamilton just gets on with the job in hand. unlike Alonso who spends far too much time winging on about things.
Alonso has even gone to the extent of breaking a door of its hinges after a race. He throws his fists in the air when someone in front of him won't let him past and he has publicly said that Hamilton was in the wrong when driving behind the safety car.

The way I see it, six of one and half a dozen of the other. It's a shame Kimi isn't really in the mix to win it. Maybe next year.

I think Lewis is held to higher standards to everyone else, he always has been and maybe it's unfair but it's made him who he is.

OK I'm happy with that, well done Kimi! He didn't even wait for the anthem to start to get a swig of booze, good boy. Lew was a muppet at the start, but I wonder what was the matter with it later on?

Wow what a race! Both Ferrari cars started fantastically, the way they edged both McLarens into third and fourth. Yeah, I think inexperience showed at the beginning, Hamilton got momentarily desperate and tried to overtake Alonso. If he had stayed in that position till the end of the race, he would have won. Even with the engine trouble, he may even have managed to fight his way to fifth at least.
Seems he had some engine trouble and the McLaren crew had to get him to switch some settings to get the car back up again. And their pit strategy didn't seem particularly good either. What a terrible week for English sports! Losing at soccer to Russia, losing the rugby world cup final to South Africa and now Hamilton loses the F1 title!

Yes, indeed, what a race! At equal times during the race it seemed as if any of the three contenders would win the title. Now that's a showdown to remember!
However, the BMWs and Williams are currently awaiting a stewards decision over their legality. Apparently their fuel was cooler than normal and could infringe the regulations. These regs say that the fuel samples taken after the pitstops must not exceed 10 degrees Celsius below the ambient temperature of the circuit. Both BMWs and Williams came in short, and if two of the three affected cars that finished ahead of Hamilton (Nakajima finished behind in the second Williams) are found to be guilty and thus disqualified, Hamilton gets the title as he would be promoted up the points order.
When Raikkonen crossed the line, I posted the result and buggered off to a comedy show, celebrating the end of a difficult season. Little did I know that the result wasn't be completely confirmed.
I do hope the result isn't changed: Raikkonen deserves a title after so many near misses.

Thanks for the tip, I just checked the F1 website and the stewards have decided not to impose penalties on both teams. I think they might have taken into consideration the fact that they would be penalising Raikkonen unfairly. He does deserve a title, he was rather unlucky when he was with McLaren, not to mention he came out at a time when Schumacher had a stranglehold on F1.
I was cheering for Hamilton, but I'm kind of glad Raikkonen won because Alonso acted like an ass during the season and didn't have the kind of graciousness a champion should have. Raikkonen keeps quiet and gets on with the job, and he's got the ultimate reward!
Apparently McLaren may appeal the stewards' decision but even if they succeed, I think Hamilton winning the title would really be soured by all this and he won't derive the true pleasure of being champion. It will bug him until he wins a clear-cut championship. Well done Ferrari and Raikkonen anyway.

2007 will go down as a great season - with all the on and off-track action it was certainly more interesting than some of the monotonous Schumacher era.
I was rooting for Hamilton, but agree that if he had won, then it would have given him little to strive for next year.
Here's looking to 2008...

..... GOD.... I hate to be right... I really should've put some money on Kimi,I'd have a new computer by now.
Now i have to tolerate my friends for another year... I was so happy the past 2 years, no Ferrari here, no Ferrari there... now it's worst then before...
I'm going to immigrate to another country I think... A little less Ferrari-ish
(0o) , well Alonso made his point, during the season he still was ruling champion, McLaren shouldn't take Alonso in the team if they knew before they wouldn't give him 100% of the resources like they gave to Hamilton. Alonso joined as the N°1 driver and ended up as a 2nd hand driver.
Yeah He cheered like a real winner when they handed over the cup........ lol... I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him with the cup in his hands, he was like "Yeah,emm...and?"
c'mon dude, you won an F1 championship against all odds, now I understand why they call him Iceman, but if he wasn't happy with the cup he could've at least cheered a little for the team...
oh well, enough said.... 2007 was a great year though...

I'm not really an avid F1 fan, I only really caught on this year because Hamilton was getting quite a lot of coverage here in the UK and it really has been quite an exciting season. Schumacher and Ferrari rolling over everyone else made F1 really boring before this, the only other time I watched was when Mika Hakkinen was around.
I guess I support McLaren only because I'm a sucker for punishment haha! Just like I support Liverpool in football (soccer). I can only imagine how crazy Ferrari's support is in Italy, it's crazy enough in the rest of the world! Nearly every F1 fan I know loves them. Their cars' performance is awesome, look at the Brazilian GP they blew the McLarens away. Alonso couldn't even catch up if he wanted to.
Next season is going to be good! What with Raikkonen (have to list him first now), Hamilton, Alonso and even Massa fighting for the title. I think if Hamilton won this year, it might have given him an air of invincibility somewhat like Schumacher. Now at least everyone else knows he's mortal and can lose too :)

I don't understand why someone would expect to be the lead driver without having that written into their contract. Kimi wasn't no. 1 either, but he just got on with it. Anyway, I'm hoping that McLaren's appeal wins (because official decisions are pretty bloody anti-British throughout the FIA) but that BMW and Williams lose constructors points not drivers points. Lewis doesn't want to win that way.

I don't think anyone wants it to be won that way.
