Urban Sprinting is a sport with a few basic rules:

  1. Enter a store with a security guard.
  2. Remove security tag from clothing and leave store with just security tag.
  3. Wait for security guard to chase you then proceed to run.
  4. You are done running when either
    • You get caught.
    • You reach a burger joint.

Example video found here.

Ha! That's freaking brilliant! Too funny.

About 3 minutes into the video it looks like he got caught by an undercover security guard... yeah, malls have those, so do amusement parks... I found that one out the hard way when I was younger.

So scrivs, what was your time for Urban Sprinting?

I'm gonna just assume you are talking to me since you said "scrivs" when we all know the lowercase doesn't suit me, but to answer your question I haven't had the time to try it out yet. Not to cause much of a stir, but being semi-ethnic I don't think they would let me play it off as a practical joke.

Security guards are scary.

Hey Scrivs, indeed I was talking to you. My Shift key was mocking me for a moment. Soon as we have an edit function in notes, I can show my shift key who's the boss :)

Don't let being semi-ethnic stop your fun. I'll write you a note giving you permission to be a semi-ethnic practical joker.

Yeah, security guards can be scary... except the ones in the malls in my town are like retired dudes... could be someone's grandfather.

Ha, funny. That heavy guard had to be pissed the way the guy was taunting him. I wonder how many times he actually did that.

Funny indeed but in the end, Neg's ate a few feet of mall floor and got a black eye.

Least he could do would be to offer the large guard some of his cheese burger and chicken nuggets.

Don't get me wrong, I think that the whole idea is kind of funny, but it's disrupting the normal flow of security and peace in the area.

Also, for those of you in the US, if a security guard (non-police) were to touch you in any way, you have all legal rights to press charges and nail them and the store/mall. I worked at a major electronics retailer for a few years in high school and one of the first things that I was told was to never touch anyone unless they touch you first.

paularms: very good point. of course this was funny and should be taken with a grain of salt and probably not attempted by anyone... insert disclaimer...

I remember before the attacks on September 11 seeing a Japanese show, kind of like the one in this video where a guy would be walking in an airport with a brief case, set it down in a crowd of people, then run away from it.

At the time I thought it was really funny but now it's not so funny... but I do think we need humor in our lives because people take things way to seriously these days...

seanrox: I'm in complete agreement. Keep the serious levels down and enjoy the short lives we live while we can.
