Miami wins in this trade. Shaq's fat contract and fat and lazy self get removed from the books, and they get a great player in Marion. Although...who knows how effective he will be without Nash.

Unless Shaq gets healthy, slims down, and decides he'll focus on D'ing people up instead of wanting the rock all the time this trade is a bust for the Suns.

But hey, they'll probably still do way better than my team this year. Go Kings!

He's due to make $40M over the next 2 years I believe, sitting out isn't an option. When you are that big you don't need to dominate games anymore, he is usable till about 39-40 with his size.

*humming to myself*

...So don't delay act now supplies are running out
Allow, if you're still alive, six to eight years to arrive
And if you follow there may be a tomorrow
But if the offer is shun you might as well be walking on the sun...

@jensized - Yeah. If I were him I would have retired on top instead of fading out. :(

This is one of the most pointless trades in the history of the NBA. Shaq can't keep up with the run and gun and the only viable reason they would do this is to have a true big man that can defend in the post. Stoudamire doesn't cut it because he hates to defend. Also they might want some lockerroom stability since Marion has been begging to get out of Phoenix so he can flop somewhere else.

The Maimi Heat are very close to sending Shaquille O'neal to the Phoenix Sun for Shawn Marion and guard Marcus Banks. From the Miami perspective, this trade definitely improves their outlook from bad to fair. Shaq is aging and cannot supply the minutes or the effort that he used to. On the Phoenix side, having two big time post players seems like it would be beneficial. But the type of "run and gun" game that Phoenix loves, could be hard on Shaq. Also, is there enough room in the paint for Shaq and Amare? Even though Amare is able to bring is game out to the perimeter, he is most effective near the rim. Most likely this wont be an issue for the Suns; Shaq probably will not play in more than half of the minutes left in this season. So why did Phoenix trade for him? Shaq's most desirable assest he brings to the team is his marketablilty. SHAQ SELLS, just ask Orlando, Los Angeles, and Miami.
