On one birthday I completely freaked out. I was told by a wise person that if things could return to normal when that day passed it's just a day, not to be used as a marker of accomplishments or a reminder of failures. That life progresses because people act and try to accomplish their goals.

He's smart...good advice he had.

Locally there is nothing going on besides fireworks so one has to be creative and make the party. :) With the kids taken care of with their plans the adults have decided we want good friends, good food, good drink - that's all we need. A group effort (we're all doing a bit of something). Melvin is bbqing, I made some side dishes, Christian and Clifton are hooking us up with some mixtapes, Yolanda bought out the liquor store. We can see the fireworks from either my house or Brian's so we'll gather (about 10-15 people) at either his place or mine. We most likely won't go out - get our drink and dance on wherever we end up. The police patrols are already out looking for people drinking/driving.

Just having good times with friends. :)

» Stupid Tattoos... WHY?  ...  Last Reply: 6 months ago by Ozone42.

Pharrell is having his tattoos removed - using replicated skin. They grow the skin from a sample of your own and sew it on. He said the tattoos do not represent who he is today.

I wonder how that skin will old up 20 yrs from now though.

» Stupid Tattoos... WHY?  ...  Last Reply: 6 months ago by Ozone42.

@Dreamweaver - exactly. The skin can look fine but the body changes. An example, a guy has big muscles and gets a tattoo when he is young. He takes care of himself but his arms at 80, although nice looking, aren't as big as they were when he first got the tattoo. The tattoo doesn't look the same.

In my family the women become smaller. Significantly smaller. They still have meat on their bones but they tend to go from 125-130 to around 105-118 in their 80s and live long lives until 90s. Still active but smaller - perhaps due to loss of muscle (not sure). I know my tattoo, no matter where I get it, will be jacked.

I do get henna tattoos (which are temporary) and I have never had a henna tattoo that I just "had" to get again or missed when it was gone. I'm always ready to move to the next one.

» Stupid Tattoos... WHY?  ...  Last Reply: 6 months ago by Ozone42.

I've yet to see a tatoo look good on an 80 year-old.

And that is why my body is tattoo free and most likely will be. Honestly, for women that get tats in areas like the stomach aren't thinking about pregnancy. If their stomach doesn't snap back...well...it ain't pretty.

I've yet to see skin look good on an 80 year-old, so I think that's kind of a moot point.

I have. There is a guy that jogs around here, has a very toned body and he's 83. Actually there are quite a few around here. It's how people take care of themselves I guess.

Where the Hell is Matt?

Stuff Community — Posted: Jun. 24, 2008  ...   Last By: Gnorb @ 6 months ago

When I came across this video I couldn't help but be inspired about it. Matt Harding is:

Matt is a 31-year-old deadbeat from Connecticut who used to think that all he ever wanted to do in life was make and play videogames. Matt achieved this goal pretty early and enjoyed it for a while, but eventually realized there might be other stuff he was missing out on.

To make a long story short, Matt (with the help of a company called StrideGum) went around the world in 14 months, visiting 42 countries...and danced with thousands of people. Looks like he had a lot of fun.

Do you guys have a "big" dream you'd like to do one day? Mine I think is traveling. Instead of dancing with strangers it would be cool to hang out with the people I interact with every day.

You say it's not a big deal but I can name a ton of people who wouldn't come close. Maybe if you are talking 1 pushup spaced out 100x throughout the day somehow.

I do too. I can do 100 in a day but unless I wimped out and spaced them ridiculously my arms would be hit the next day.

Az Yet is one of my favorites. I get lost in the acapella version. I remember it was weeks before I realized it was acapella.

I have to admit, being a sucker for music, in my past relationships that was an easy way to make a tense situation dissolve (at least on my part) immediately. I had ex's (currents at the time) email me a link, text me, IM me, or even call with the song playing in the background (for them I used different tactics). By the time the song is over it was all good - at least able to talk about the situation.

Odd, it's always older songs though. I'm currently listening to Last Kiss by Mariah Carey but I doubt it's a song I'll be ooohing and aaahing over a year from now.

The Ten Craziest Concept Cars Of All Time

Automobiles Community — Posted: Jun. 12, 2008  ...   Last By: Scrivs @ 7 months ago

I'm not a car enthusiast but I wanted GINA (and I don't care for BMWs). Bad. I was hurt when I saw it was only a concept car not meant to ever be released. Of course my wallet probably wouldn't agree with my desire to purchase the car but damn, the only cars these days that make me "oh" and "ah" are concept cars. :( I don't see how car enthusiasts stand it.

#6 doesn't even look like a car. It looks like a space ship. Odd, GINA is the only one I visualize myself driving. It's so sexy.

I let my daughter read this discussion and she was appalled. As a kid she doesn't accept the excuse that since she is a minor she can do whatever she wants because she's not accountable (that pleases me greatly - proud Mom moment). Under that scenario a child could go on a killing spree and not be held accountable.

A child is not held accountable for not understanding the outcome of their actions because they are children. Anyone should be held accountable if they knowingly do something they know is wrong...and kids are, aren't they? Otherwise kids wouldn't be grounded or chastised - it is part of the process of teaching them to be responsible adults.

The parents need punishment but that girl needs it much more. The parents obviously are unable to control that girl since the articles say she is still misbehaving in other areas. It is very likely the parents don't have a clue everything this girl is into.

This girl deserves to be in juvenile detention until she's 18.

» Some females are scandalous - no other word for it  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by Tyme.

This girl went into this lying. How do we know the second guy didn't talk to her for weeks before he had sex with her? Or months? Would that make it "better" that the guy spent more time talking to her? The level this girl lies I seriously doubt that spending more time with her would make much of a difference. She's been doing it for years...obviously.

She purposely set the second guy up and she knew what would happen to him. And we wonder why people shy away from doing the right thing anymore? Because the law has a funny way of turning against the good people.

» Seriously F*d Up  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by Scrivs.

@Gnorb - friendships (any time of relationship) last exactly as long as they should. Some grow stronger over time, some grow weaker, some (never strong in the first place) "snap" or break "easily". The two people involved determine the path of the friendship - it takes consistent behavior over time to maintain a friendship.

I personally would not end a friendship over missing the wedding but I would see things as they are. If you were one to always be late, she got on your case about it, you were late again, she got on your case (rinse & repeat) that's a sign of a friendship that isn't meant to last (it's only a matter of time before it snaps). If you were late (not show) for her wedding - that's inevitable...why expect anything different? Then I could see her reaction. If this isn't the norm for you, I would have been concerned something was wrong and (wedding or not) took a second to see if you were ok, especially since you had a 4 hr. drive. 10 yr friend? Yeah, I would definitely take the time out and anyone who knows me would expect me to do exactly that. Relieved that you were okay, THEN I'd get pissed off but it wouldn't be a "I'm not going to talk to you for six months then end the friendship" type of thing.

It seems you could jump through hoops to try to make it right but she's not open to forgive you right now, making the effort worthless. Definitely a learning experience. :) She didn't show reactions or behavior in the past that would indicate to you she'd go ballistic if you didn't show?

» Seriously F*d Up  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by Scrivs.

I'll give you my take from a female's perspective. You messed up way before you missed the wedding.

1) It didn't dawn on you until the day before her wedding that you didn't know where to go. That's huge.

2) You called the day before, when things were insane for her, and you received a short (and curt) response "Higgins Hall". You didn't know which one. Call the halls (since you looked them up) to see where the wedding was instead of calling her about location. If you had gotten up on time you could have headed in the general direction (they are an hour apart) and called early in the morning to find the location.

3) Without knowing which hall you'd have to take a guess because they are an hour apart. You get up a 4am everything would have to go perfect (with a 4hr drive) for you to get to her wedding at 9am. Personally I'd wonder why you didn't get in the night before.

4) You overslept. Yeah, no explaining that one.

But most important, you've known her for a decade and her reaction is surprising to you. It shows the two of you really didn't know each other at all, which is what she might be thinking. 10 yrs - you'd KNOW how to make this right. I don't know how close you two are but from her words I get the feeling you should "know" this.

For a screw up that big, you send a card, you send the gift, reimburse her for any expense she might have paid for you (was there a reception after?), you send flowers...she didn't mess up, you did. You missed one of the most important days of her life. To me, it seems like you were going out of obligation but didn't "really" want to go.

Personally I wouldn't say "friendship is off" but the fact that she is doing that shows how hurt/mad/insert emotion here she is by this (IMO). In your emails if you explained it like you did here it's almost like you were excusing what happened instead of, "I messed up, I can't put into words how much this hurts me that I hurt/disappointed you like this, I'm so sorry, how can I make it up to you?"

Again, from the female perspective, the wound heals when the person does what it takes to make things right - or so much time goes by that it doesn't matter anymore. Up to you which one works for you. :)

I hope what I'm saying makes sense. Not the way I would have handled it (if I were her) but from a female's perspective I can kind of see where she is coming from.

» Some females are scandalous - no other word for it  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by Tyme.

OMG, She's done it before.

The girl did the same thing a year prior, when she was 12, and lied about her age to a 24-year-old man who was sentenced to five years in prison for having sexual relations with the minor.

From MySpace's ToS:

Your profile may be deleted and your Membership may be terminated without warning, if we believe that you are under 14 years of age, if we believe that you are under 18 years of age and you represent yourself as 18 or older, or if we believe you are over 18 and represent yourself as under 18.

Two men have gone to jail over this girl. Two men. The more I think about it the more cruel it is this girl is out and about living her life after messing up two innocent people's lives.

» Some females are scandalous - no other word for it  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by Tyme.

Ozone, she is well developed for her age. She doesn't look 13 which is why it's so cruel. If the guy was out to do harm or take advantage he wouldn't have gone to the father. If I found out my daughter was doing something like that I would have a much different reaction.

Some females are scandalous - no other word for it

Babes Community — Posted: Jun. 4, 2008  ...   Last By: Tyme @ 7 months ago

This is one of those stories where I wonder why the law works the way it does.

1. Guy meets girl on the street.
2. She told him she just turned 18.
3. Girl has MySpace page where she passes herself off as 19 and divorced.
4. After a couple of meetings guy has sex with girl.
5. When guy finds out girl is underage he told her father.
6. Guy goes to jail.
7. Nothing happens to the girl.
8. Fraud MySpace page still exists.

To me this is so messed up. How was that guy supposed to know she was only 13? And he did the right thing - he told her father...and he goes to jail. What kind of message is this sending to that girl?

Dean's family admits Alisha still stays out late and has yet to delete her misleading MySpace page.

They know she's trouble - she remains trouble. It's wrong to me she'll get away with this. Am I wrong here?

Digital advertising coming to a car near you

With send/receive capabilities and overall bandwidth improving, local contextual advertising, perhaps rich-media-based, is just around the corner. Google already allows users in Europe to send directions from the web to maps on connected dashboards. Microsoft is working on a system through its Sync technology to provide ad-supported, location-based information for which users would normally pay.

Although female, I can give some tips. :)

I always have honest discussions with my kids about sex. I can tell you that if they sense you are unconformable the child will become uncomfortable.

Just talk to him. You mentioned he has crushes. Take some one-on-one time with him, forget about the parent/son thing and just talk. I'm sure he already knows penis goes into vagina. Where he might be lacking is how to talk to a girl, how to know if a girl likes him, how to interact with a girl. Is he shy? You can start off with topics like that and lead into sex.

My Uncle (deceased) had a PitBull, single-handedly one of the most lovable pets I've come across. Because of that, I don't condemn PitBulls as a whole, but on a case by case basis.

I do know once a PitBull becomes aggressive (which my Uncle's was not) it is very hard to make them go "backwards", going against their nature. As a neighbor that dog is familiar carmodyarc's scent, and the dog is aggressive with people around its owner.

The only question to ask: what if carmodyarc had been a child? Can that dog be guaranteed not to be aggressive and bite anyone else again?

From what I read about PitBulls, the only way to avoid that is to put a muzzle on the dog when it goes out. For all we know they talked to a vet and the vet's recommendation was to have the dog put to sleep.

Anytime I hear of a PitBull biting someone here (on the news) the dog is put to sleep, even if the owner wants to have it trained or try to stop the aggressive behavior.
