Week 4, Day 1: 22,16,16,14,22

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Just done my week 3 take 2 day 3: 25,19,19,17,22

I will be starting week 4 on Tuesday.

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

I'm running slightly late, but my week 3 take 2 day 3 will be tomorrow.

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Week 3 Take 2 Day 2: 22,17,17,15,20

This was definitely easier when I was strictly keeping to schedule - sliding a day here and there and playing catch up doesn't work as well as doing it when it's supposed to happen for sure. I'm keeping at it though.

Week 3 take 2 day 1: 20,15,15,13,20

I'm running a few days late starting this week due to work stuff getting in the way, but I think I can stay on schedule for the next two weeks at least now. I did also go down a level because although I completed week 3 at the top level, it was at a level that was killing me, so I'll get week 3 and 4 out of the way at the middle level and see how the next test goes.

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Week 3, Day 3: 30,22,22,20,27

That was so hard. I'm doing week 3 again next week, and I might actually go down a level to make it a bit easier. I've struggled to get through these. Onward and upwards though. I really want to do this!

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Dear god that's hard!

Week 3 Day 2: 27, 19, 19, 15, 25

I'm going to be repeating week 3 too - this needs to be easier for me before I move to week 4. I could kiss the ground by the time I come down that last time!

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Chuff me (polite version!) - Just done Week 3 Day 1: 25,17,17,15,25

That was tough for me - I can still feel my muscles buzzing! hehe

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

I've just done my test after week 2 and got to 36 which I'm quite pleased with. I did 14 on my first test when starting this so it just goes to show this is having an impact.

Tuesday is normally my day 1 so I'm running late starting week 3 due to working late. So I think I'll do my first week 3 day tomorrow, the second one on Friday and I'll be back to normal on my correct days by the end of the week again.

This is hard, but enjoyable.

Incidentally, I'm keeping a Google Docs spreadsheet to keep track of all this and so far I've done 408 push ups as part of this programme - that number is 408 more than I've done in the last few decades!

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

The delays are supposed to be minimums so a few extra minutes can't hurt there. I think it's more important not to try and speed it up rather than spend an extra few minutes delaying. So you're fine! :)

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Week 2, Day 3: 15, 15, 12, 12, 21

Probably do the test tomorrow evening before starting week 3 on Tuesday.

We're a third of the way through folks!

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Week 2, Day 2: 16,13,11,11,20

I thought I'd been doing the minimum for the last max set each time so I ought to put a bit more effort in. I'm not sure I'm really at collapsing point at the end or if I'm just bailing out once I know I've done what's necessary. Regardless, this is hard work but I can feel the benefit. The first push ups feel much easier than they did when I started this thing.

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Week 2 Day 1: 12,12,9,7,10 - yeah, hardest day so far for me this one.

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Week 1 Day 3 (1 day late): 15,13,10,10,15 = 63

Chuff me that felt tough today!

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Well, despite the confusion about my days, today was my day and I'm having to postpone until tomorrow. I originally picked Sundays because Saturdays are my main day for getting out and doing something active. This week I had to swap to Sunday though. Consequently, I left home at 7:45am this morning, and got home at 8pm this evening after walking for 8 or 9 hours in Derbyshire - quite gruelling really.

So I'm catching up tomorrow evening after work. Next few weekends I have Saturdays planned out and Sundays more relaxing :)

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

That was a quote from the top when I started that just contained my three days listed.

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

It's nearly midnight so I just did the test and have earmarked Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday as my days

It's Saturday night UK time and Sunday is tomorrow :)

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

My day 3 isn't until tomorrow :)

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Also, the instructions say if you really struggle you can repeat a week until you feel ready - I have no qualms about doing that if necessary - I'd rather get to the end late than not at all. I fully intend to finish though.

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Week 1, Day 2: 12,12,10,10,13 - and boy did I notice this one compared to day 1!

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Tomorrow is day 2 for me, but I can still feel day one in my upper arms! - Which is affecting my PacMan playing so I might have to cancel that challenge! ;) (not really!)

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Checking in: Week 1, Day 1: 42

It definitely feels like this ought to be good for me!

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

I doubt I've done a push up since school days so this was a complete surprise for me about how many would be possible. It's nearly midnight so I just did the test and have earmarked Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday as my days, so day 1 is tomorrow for me. I did 14 for the test, 10+ is column three for the first few weeks for me then.

» 100 Pushups in 6 Weeks  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by Scrivs.

Count me in too. I'm at the start (a week or so in) of a get fit campaign and this is a good addition to keep me at it. I've not done anything other than read the details yet though!

» Mountain Biking...anyone?  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by joshawesome.

Well, I got in to it around 5 years ago, but the last 2 years haven't done much at all. This was due to all sorts of silly reasons (like having the worst summer ever last year where it just rained and rained all the time).

I'm intending to give my bike a bit of attention to make sure it's ok and get back in to it. I know it's going to be hard to get back in to it again though.

I've got loads of old mountain biking photos on Flickr and hope to add more when I get back on the bike this year.

In fact, it was probably the mountain biking that got me in to photography really. Photography doesn't keep you as fit as mountain biking though so I need to do both again!

» So, How Much Are You Paying for Gas?  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by Gnorb.

If public transport was any good we'd all be using it - as it is, we're all just paying stupid prices for petrol and not getting any of the benefits you'd think that would bring. My road looks like the surface of the moon there are that many potholes in it and was last re-surfaced when I was a small child over 3 decades ago.

My car journey to work about 16 miles from home takes about 40 minutes typically because of congestion, but if my car is in the garage and I have to use buses, I have to leave home an hour and a quarter earlier than normal, travel to a large town, swap buses in a 5 minute change-over window that if I miss will add 45 minutes to the journey, then get a second bus to arrive at work just in time. The reverse journey is worse because I have to go back to the other town and wait for 30 minutes before getting the next 45 minute bus journey, so it takes 2 hours to get back. So, 3.5 hours to travel 32 miles (or 4.25 if I miss my morning switchover). The local buses seem to be the same ones that were in use when I was a kid and are very loud and unpleasant and stinking of diesel inside quite often. Also very very cold in winter. Remember public transport companies are privately held companies in the UK who are in it to make money like any other company. And each route generally has no competition so they keep their costs down and just milk it for all it's worth.

My bus journey's work out at about £10 per day.

If that is anyone's idea of excellent, come over here and start stumping up your 8 dollars per gallon.

The general mood in the UK is that we're being bled dry paying for fuel, but there is no alternative for most of us. Because there are that many cars on the road these days, driving anywhere is a horrible experience and most of us would rather not do it and would use public transport if we could - it's just not possible though.

» So, How Much Are You Paying for Gas?  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by Gnorb.

The trouble is that we don't have excellent public transport and we pay plenty of other taxes for healthcare. If you live in a city then you'll have good transport links, for the rest of us, we're screwed and have to rely on cars and pay the price.

» So, How Much Are You Paying for Gas?  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by Gnorb.

I did a quick calculation, because we pay per litre, but basically it works out as $8.22 per gallon. (£1.10 per litre for petrol, about £1.19 for diesel - my calc based on the cheaper petrol).

It would have to be Mel B / Scary Spice in last place - mainly due to not being able to shake the image of the Bo Selecta version of her...

But, after due consideration: Baby, Ginger, Sporty, Scary, Posh.

I know they always photograph and show off the stranger stuff, but really! ;)

» I Quit  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by estarla.

I stopped in 2003, two months after being diagnosed with diabetes. I had read up on the effects on the body and mind while you smoked and what to expect when you stopped.

Nobody ever enjoys their first cigarette - the reason is that the pleasure you get from smoking is actually your brain playing tricks to reward you for getting more Nicotine. That first cigarette is a surprise to your brain so it doesn't do much.

At the other end of the line, when you stop, your brain will do increasingly desperate things in order to get more nicotine - it apparently takes two days for the nicotine in your system to disappear - that makes the third day after quitting the hardest when your brain is really working overtime telling you to get more!

So, I thought, if I make it past day three, then I've gone past the hardest part - and I wouldn't want to repeat that bit - so if I can muster the will power to last those three days then I'm on the downhill stretch and away!

Two days to get rid of nicotine seems quick, but it takes several months for all of the other things to go back to normal - energy levels, lung capacity, sense of smell (a mixed blessing sometimes!)

There used to be a government (UK) web site called givingupsmoking.co.uk - that would send you an email every day after you decide to quit telling you what you could expect to happen during the day - I found that fascinating and very helpful. They peter out after a while but occaisionally you get one that says things like "today all of the carbon monoxide has left your blood stream, you should be feeling more energetic than you used to".

I don't know how good their replacement web site is - Go Smoke Free - it looks very basic compared to the old one.

Don't listen to me though - I also think baseball ought to work like a pinball machine like it does in Futurama! hehe.

» Team Orders In Racing  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by MyAppleStuff.

Well, they're in a team - so b) - it's sensible, even if it is boring to watch.

They ought to let the crowd vote after a race for drivers they found to be the most exciting drivers and award them a load of extra points, so that somebody down the field who drives like a demon in an entertaining way could do quite well out of it while the yawn merchants at the front get penalised.

This seems like a ridiculous idea, but I'd be willing to try anything to boost the interest of what is essentially a lot of cars going around in a circle over and over again! ;)

I've had a pretty awful winter where I haven't done that much cycling. Daylight saving time starts in the UK this weekend and it's getting warmer so I'm going to get out and reverse the loss of fitness over the winter. I'm so glad to see the back of a cold wet windy winter.

» $3.0999 / gal for gas here! (California)  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by thesirdanny.

Well, we pay just under £1 per litre! - which means it works out about $6.50 to $7.00 per gallon! :P

Mind you the UK is smaller so we don't have as far to travel! ;)
